Often called the Bloomingdale's of Japan - a description that doesn't quite do this store justice - Isetan has become a nearly universal favourite, with one of the most complete selections of Japanese designers in one place. These days, younger Japanese prefer this department store in Shinjuku. Enthusiasts claim Isetan is the fastest to spot new trends and the quickest to offer new items. Millions pass through each day. Isetan is recommended as a place to buy yukata (cotton gowns), still the number-one gift item from this city. There is a food hall in the basement and the seventh-floor “I Club” offers 5% discounts to those who join.
